Sewer and Drain Endorsement vs The Enhancement Endorsementby: Pamela Hoffman
Our agency has noticed that some of our policyholders are not aware that water or sewage, which backs up through the sewer and drain or which enters into and overflows from within a sump pump, well or any other system designed to remove sub-surface water, is not a coverage provided by your Erie Insurance homeowners' policy. This coverage must be purchased and endorsed onto your homeowner policy for an additional charge.
Erie has two different endorsements that will provide the sewer and drain backup coverage. They are the "Sewer & Drain Backup Endorsement" and "The Enhancement Endorsement". The Sewer and Drain Backup Endorsement will provide coverage for the above mentioned occurrences and has an annual premium charge of $40 with a $100 deductible or $35 with a $250 deductible. This endorsement has a maximum coverage limit of $5,000 for damages. However, The Enhancement Endorsement provides a coverage limit of $10,000 for the sewer and drain backup. Also included in this endorsement is building ordinance coverage and increased amounts of coverage for watercraft, money, trailers as well as increased amounts of coverage for jewelry, furs, guns and silverware. The annual premium for the Enhancement endorsement is $45 and your current homeowner deductible would apply.
You may also purchase additional amounts of coverage for the sewer and drain backup with this endorsement. So, if you do require this coverage, there is more than one option. You can decide which endorsement best fits your needs.
